Welcome.. I'm Claire
Living with persistent pain can disconnect you from your body, your confidence, and the life you once knew. Through understanding pain and gently regulating the nervous system, I help you reconnect with your inner lighthouse so your own light can guide you home.
At ABS Therapy, we Align with the message behind your pain, Balance the nervous system to restore safety, and allow your inner light to Shine as you find your way forward again
Hi, I am so glad you are here...
I’m Claire, an Occupational Therapist, wife and mum to 3. I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with their purpose and develop a deeper understanding of their mind, body and soul.
I have been working as an Occupational Therapist since 2007. In 2016 I completed my Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy, and in 2020 our family moved to Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Over the years I have developed a deep commitment to supporting people living with persistent pain and nervous system dysregulation. What drives my work is a belief that people should not have to accept a life defined by pain. While pain can feel overwhelming and consuming, it is often the nervous system’s way of signalling that something needs attention. With the right understanding and guidance, we can begin to listen to that message, restore safety within the nervous system, and allow the experience of pain to change.
My passion for Occupational Therapy is grounded in the belief that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and the chance to participate meaningfully in life. Helping you understand your pain, rebuild trust in your body, and reconnect with what matters most is at the heart of my work.
Kind Words From Clients
For the first time, I can recognize when my body is actually in pain, versus when it’s reacting emotionally or defensively. That awareness has given me back a sense of control and safety. I can pause, breathe, connect with my body, and remind myself that I’m not in danger.
Because of this work, my daily pain has gone from a 7/10 down to around a 4/10 — but more importantly, I’m now able to manage my pain without relying on the same level of medication. I’ve been able to step back from the opiates and instead use the tools I’ve learned to regulate my system and calm my body from the inside.
The pain isn’t gone, but my relationship with it has changed. The way I REACT to the pain has changed. I no longer feel afraid of my body. I feel more grounded, more present, and more connected to myself. For the first time in a very long time, I feel hopeful — because I can see real progress, and I know I’m moving FORWARD. B
Claire took someone who was broken, someone who thought they would never completely heal from their past trauma, someone whom had engaged in so many different forms of therapy in their lifetime, that I had all but given up on therapists altogether and their ability to truly help me heal from my past trauma.
Being reluctant at first to engage with Claire based on my previous experience with the many other therapists I'd had before, I was pleasantly surprised with her initial approach and it's uniqueness. Claire's form of therapy, is unlike any therapy you will ever experience. I have healed much of my past trauma and because of this I am a better mother, a softer wāhine, but stronger too all at the same time.
I can look back on my past now without the heavy pain that used to sit so vigilant behind the trauma. I spend far less time protecting myself and more time living in the now without fear. I am beyond grateful for Claire and I can categorically say without a doubt that without Claire's therapy, I would not feel as free from my past, as I do today. Thank you Claire from the bottom of my heart and soul. You truly changed my life, so I could finally live!
How I Support Your Healing
The Lighthouse Method
For Adults living with persistent pain
Living with persistent pain can feel like navigating through a relentless storm.
The Lighthouse Method is a compassionate, evidence-informed journey that helps you understand why pain persists, calm an overprotective nervous system, and rebuild trust in your body.
This process is supported by Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), an evidence-based approach that helps retrain the brain’s interpretation of pain by reducing fear and reinforcing safety.
Combined with pain education, nervous system regulation, and meaningful action, you’ll discover practical tools to move from fear to confidence, from surviving to living, and from simply managing pain to reconnecting with the life that matters most.
The Lighthouse Journey
Helping teenagers find their direction through pain.
Persistent pain during the teenage years can affect far more than the body. It can change confidence, limit participation in sport and school, affect friendships, and make young people question what their body is capable of. When pain persists, it can feel as though life has lost its direction.
The Lighthouse Journey is a pain-focused programme designed specifically for young people aged 12 to 18. It helps teenagers understand why pain persists, make sense of what is happening in their body and nervous system, and develop practical strategies to move beyond fear and regain confidence.
Parents are included throughout the journey, creating a shared understanding of persistent pain and fostering a supportive environment where confidence, independence, and resilience can continue to grow beyond each session.
The Little Lighthouse
Helping children find calm in the storm
Children don’t always have the words to explain what they’re experiencing. When pain persists, it can become confusing and frightening for both children and their families. Sometimes pain continues long after an injury has healed. Sometimes it seems to appear without a clear explanation. Over time, pain can begin to affect confidence, school, sport, play, friendships, and the simple joy of being a child.
The Little Lighthouse Island is a three-book journey for children living with persistent pain and the families walking beside them. Across NOTICE, NEST and NAVIGATE, children travel alongside Lumi and his island friends, learning to understand pain, build safety and gently return to movement, play, school and the things they love.
The accompanying Parent Companion Guides help caregivers create a shared language of curiosity, confidence and hope at home.
More than reducing symptoms, the series helps children understand that they are not broken, trust their bodies again and find their light, even when life feels stormy.
The Lighthouse Community (Monthly Support Groups)
Because healing happens better together.
Living with persistent pain can feel incredibly isolating. Many people begin to withdraw from the activities they love, feel misunderstood by those around them, or believe they have to navigate their pain alone.
Our Pain Support Groups provide a safe, welcoming space where people living with persistent pain can come together to learn, connect, and grow. Combining pain education, nervous system regulation, practical self-management strategies, guided discussions, and shared experiences, each session is designed to help you better understand your pain while building confidence in your body’s ability to heal and adapt.

The Lighthouse Professional
Empowering clinicians to confidently navigate the complexities of persistent pain.
Persistent pain is one of the most challenging and rapidly evolving areas of healthcare. As our understanding of pain continues to grow, clinicians are increasingly seeking practical ways to translate modern pain science into meaningful clinical practice.
The Lighthouse Professional provides evidence-informed education, mentoring, supervision, and professional development for healthcare professionals working with people experiencing persistent pain. Drawing on nearly two decades of clinical experience, occupational therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), pain neuroscience education, nervous system regulation, and The Lighthouse Method, each session bridges the gap between research and real-world application.
The Lighthouse Collective
Burnout rarely happens overnight. It develops gradually when sustained pressure, limited recovery, unclear boundaries and ongoing demands begin to exceed a person’s capacity.
The Lighthouse Collective delivers engaging, evidence-informed workshops for workplaces and organisations. Each session makes complex ideas about stress, the nervous system and wellbeing easier to understand, while providing practical strategies participants can use at work and at home.
